About the Book
The book is mostly a crafting ingredient rather than something you use directly. You can turn three books and six wooden planks into a bookshelf, which is useful for enchanting setups and decoration. Combine one book with a feather and an ink sac to make a book and quill, so you can write your own pages. Books are also part of the enchanting table recipe, along with diamonds and obsidian.
How to get the Book
Books are crafted from three paper and one leather. Paper comes from sugar cane, and leather drops from cows, horses, and similar animals. You can also get books by breaking bookshelves, which drop three books each. Bookshelves generate in stronghold libraries and some village buildings, and you can craft them yourself. Regular books also show up in stronghold library chests, so exploring can save you from crafting a few.
