About Iron Sword
The Iron Sword is a reliable melee weapon for early and mid-game fights. It deals 6 damage per hit, which puts it above stone swords and below diamond swords. That means common hostile mobs such as zombies and skeletons go down in a few swings.
You can repair it with iron ingots on an anvil, or combine two worn iron swords in a grindstone. On Java Edition, sword swings also have a sweep attack that hits nearby enemies for reduced damage.
How to get Iron Sword
The usual way to get an Iron Sword is to craft it. Place two iron ingots in a vertical line in the crafting grid, with a stick below them. That gives you one sword.
You can also find iron swords in some loot chests, especially in strongholds and village weaponsmiths. Rarely, a zombie that spawns holding an iron sword will drop it when killed.
