How to craft Observer in Minecraft
To craft an observer in Minecraft, place 6× Cobblestone, 2× Redstone, 1× Quartz in the exact pattern on a crafting table to craft 1 observer
Observer crafting recipe
Produces 1× Observer.

- This is a shaped recipe, meaning the items must be placed in this specific arrangement on the grid.
- Observer requires a crafting table to craft.
About Observer
The Observer is a redstone block that watches the space directly in front of its face. When that block changes, the observer sends a short redstone pulse out of its back. This makes it useful for automatic farms, hidden doors, and any build that needs to react to something happening.
Key facts:
- Detects block updates, such as a crop growing, a piston moving, or a door opening.
- Outputs a pulse from the side opposite its face.
- Can be placed facing any direction.
It is not a power source you switch on manually. It only responds when something changes in front of it.
How to get Observer
You can only get Observers by crafting them. The recipe uses six cobblestone, two redstone dust, and one Nether quartz. Nether quartz is usually the only ingredient that requires a trip through a Nether portal. Observers are not found in village or dungeon chests, so crafting is the only route.
