About Redstone
Redstone is the material behind Minecraft's electrical-style circuits. You can place it on the ground as redstone wire, where it carries a redstone signal up to 15 blocks from a power source like a lever, button, or pressure plate.
It is also one of the most-used crafting ingredients in the game. It goes into pistons, dispensers, powered rails, redstone torches, repeaters, and many other components. In brewing, redstone extends how long certain potions last.
How to get Redstone
Redstone is mainly obtained by mining redstone ore deep underground. You need an iron pickaxe or better. Each ore block drops 4 to 5 redstone dust, and Fortune increases the amount.
You can also get redstone as a drop from witches, or find it in chests in mineshafts and dungeons. If you have a block of redstone, you can craft it back into nine pieces of redstone dust.
