About Snow

Snow is a thin, ground-level layer of snow rather than a full block. You can stack up to eight layers in the same block space to build up height, which makes it useful for paths, drifts, and subtle winter detailing.

A single layer sits close to the ground and does not block movement.
Snow is not a light source, and you can collect the layers with Silk Touch.

How to get Snow

You can collect Snow with a shovel enchanted with Silk Touch. Without Silk Touch, shoveling snow layers gives snowballs instead, so you will need the enchantment to pick up the layers themselves.

You can also craft Snow from Snow Blocks. Three Snow Blocks placed in a row produce six Snow layers. Snow also accumulates naturally in snowy biomes when it snows, so you can gather it there once it settles.
