  • This is a shaped recipe, meaning the items must be placed in this specific arrangement on the grid.
  • Stonecutter requires a crafting table to craft.

About the Stonecutter

The Stonecutter is a utility block for shaping stone-related materials. Right-click it to open a cutting menu, then choose a block type to transform it into stairs, slabs, walls, or other cut forms.

Its main advantage over a regular crafting table is efficiency. Many recipes give you one stair or two slabs directly from a single block, without the extra pieces a crafting table recipe needs. Some polished, cut, and chiselled stone variants are only available through a stonecutter.

The Stonecutter also acts as the job site block for mason villagers. Placing one near an unemployed villager can turn them into a mason.

How to get the Stonecutter

You can get a Stonecutter in two main ways. Mason houses in villages sometimes contain one, so exploring villages is a good option early on.

You can also craft it using three stone blocks and one iron ingot. Place the iron ingot in the top middle slot of a crafting table, and put the three stone blocks across the bottom row. Villagers do not sell the block itself, so crafting and village mason houses are the usual sources.
