What does Density do in Minecraft?

Density is a Mace enchantment that increases the damage of smash attacks based on your fall distance. It rewards higher drops by dealing more damage on impact.

Quick facts

  • Max level: 5
  • Compatible items: Mace
  • Incompatible with: Breach, Smite, Bane of Arthropods

How it works

When you land a smash attack with a Mace, Density adds extra damage that scales with the height you fell. Higher levels increase the bonus.

Density is strongest when you can reliably gain height before striking, such as using jump boosts, wind charges, or terrain. It does not affect regular ground hits—only smash attacks after a fall.

How to get Density

You can obtain Density by enchanting a Mace at an enchantment table, finding it on enchanted books in loot chests, or trading with villagers who sell enchanted books. Use an anvil to apply a Density book to a Mace.

If you are combining multiple books, check incompatibilities first, density cannot be combined with Breach, Smite, or Bane of Arthropods.
