About the Chest
A chest is a basic storage block that gives you 27 inventory slots. Place two chests side by side on the same level and they join into one large chest with 54 slots, which makes expanding storage simple as your supplies grow.
Right-click a chest to open it and move items in or out. A comparator placed next to a chest can read how full it is, which is handy for simple redstone storage systems. When you break a chest, it drops as an item and any contents scatter on the ground, so you can pick up a full chest and carry its contents if you have space.
How to get the Chest
You craft a chest from any eight wooden planks arranged in a ring around the empty center of a crafting table. Chests are also very common as generated loot containers in dungeons, mineshafts, villages, strongholds, temples, and many other structures. You do not need any special tool to collect one, though an axe breaks it fastest.
