About Blue Ice
Blue Ice is the most slippery of Minecraft's ice blocks. Players and mobs slide further on it than on regular ice or packed ice, and boats glide noticeably faster across it. That makes it popular for long boat highways and item transport lines.
It also does not melt when placed near bright light, unlike regular ice. A lesser-known use: when lava flows over soul soil next to Blue Ice, it creates basalt, which some players use in basalt generators.
How to get Blue Ice
You can craft Blue Ice from nine packed ice blocks in a 3x3 grid. It also spawns naturally in frozen ocean icebergs and in some ancient city structures. If you mine it in the wild, use a tool with Silk Touch, otherwise it breaks without dropping anything.
Packed ice itself is made from nine regular ice, so gathering the materials usually involves a Silk Touch tool at some point.
