About Shield
The Shield is a defensive tool you raise to block incoming attacks. Hold it in your off hand and press use to lift it, and it stops melee hits, arrows, and other projectiles coming from the front. It also reduces knockback from blocked attacks.
While blocking you move more slowly, so you trade some movement for protection. Axes can temporarily disable a raised shield, which makes Vindicators and axe-wielding players dangerous if you rely on it too much.
How to get Shield
You get a Shield by crafting it. The recipe uses six wooden planks of any kind and one iron ingot, with the iron in the top middle slot. It is not found in chests or sold by villagers, so crafting is the only route. The only real hurdle is finding that first iron ingot; after that, the wooden planks are easy.
