About the Compass
A compass is a navigation tool that points toward your world spawn point, the original spot where you first appeared in the world. It helps you find your way back if you get lost, especially before you have a bed and a settled base.
You can also use a compass on a lodestone to make it point at that block instead, which is handy for marking a specific spot. The linked compass gets an enchanted glint. In the Nether and the End, a normal compass needle spins wildly and is not useful for navigation.
How to get the Compass
You craft a compass from 4 iron ingots and 1 redstone dust. That means you need to do some mining first, but the materials are easy to gather in the Overworld. You can also find a compass in some structure chests, such as shipwreck map chests.
